Our school had an anti-bullying presentation by Lizzie Sider and her theme you could say was Butterflies. So we were asked to decorate the gym for her presentation. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to review balance and pastels.
We started by reviewing Balance and Symmetry. It's amazing to me how many kids already forgot! But they quickly jogged their memories. Amazingly, they almost all remembered how to correctly pastel and blend so we did a review by all creating a monarch butterfly.
Once I was sure we understood how to create the colors, I gave them the task of creating and designing their own butterfly. The results for the most part were really pretty. I was bummed because at the last minute they moved the presentation from our gym to the High school gym so we couldn't put up our creations but none the less they were very pretty and it was a fun end of the year project.
I gave them back too quickly and forgot to take pictures, but here are a couple I managed to snap before the kids whisked them away!
