Last semester I forgot to publish this lesson when I did our hand unit. I introduced the kids to value using a fun exercise with white charcoal and black construction paper.
After exploring positive and negative space and then learning several different ways to add value, I told the kids we would be creating a "value hand" . The results were kinda cool, thought I found many kids simply mimicked the examples. That early in the semester many were not confident enough to to produce their own work so they immolated my examples. It provided a valuable lesson for me in not letting them have access to the examples beyond the original introduction.
Here are some of the more creative ones I had leftover from last semester.
