Starting off the semester we decided to visit Japan and China. The kids bored of me talking to them about different art subjects as they called it. Not teaching or instructing, but talking to them. So I decided to let them teach me something.
First we watched some popular movie clips on dragons. Then I set them off on their own to research the difference between Asian Dragons and Medieval or European dragons. Once we had the compare and contrast and identified some key differences, I allowed them to chose which kind they wished to do for their final project.
Once they had their sketches, I introduced charcoal and we revisited how to create value and how to play with light and shadows. This was an extremely difficult concept. Students kept asking me "What light?"
But these are some of the more interesting dragons the kids came up with...
